Come and join the Esterhazy Singers.

We are a friendly, established choir of about 30, seeking all voices. Enthusiasm and commitment is more important than technical expertise (there is an informal audition). We perform classical repertoire of all periods in London and elsewhere, often with professional soloists and orchestras, under our Musical Director, David Allinson. We rehearse on Tuesdays 19.00 to 21.30 in the Southwark area.

Call me on 01293 782519 or e-mail me on nyrensm@hotmail.com for more info.

We are a mixed choir of 40 voices based in the borough of Torfaen, and celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2004. We perform Radio 2 style easy listening music and are currently looking for sopranos and tenors. It is not often we get vacancies in our choir, but we would appreciate anyone who is interested to contact us. PETERBOROUGH MALE VOICE CHOIR
This well established, award winning male voice choir would like to invite applications to become its Musical Director. Our current long serving MD has indicated his intention of retiring from October 2003 and we would like to appoint a successor as soon as possible. We have about 40 singers and the choir has a reputation for singing innovative music with a repertoire of considerable variation and interest. This is a demanding position and would require a great deal of energy, good humour and enthusiasm. We hold weekly practices throughout the year and perform about 12 concerts every year in the locality.
For a preliminary discussion contact our Chairman, Peter Sterry-Blunt, Old Court, Greatford, Stamford, Lincs, PE9 4QA, Tel 01778 561817 email oldcourt@lineone.net>

Thanks to Gerontius, Spectrum has a new MD. Within 2 days of posting a notice on your board we reeived an enquiry from a prospective MD and a couple of weeks later we met and appointed Mary Jo Paranzino. Is this some kind of record? It certainly proves the worth of your site.

Now for another challenge. Spectrum has recently lost a couple of male singers. We would really like to replace them, so if there are any tenors or basses living or working within reasonable distance of Epsom and are free on Tuesdays, please get in touch. We sing light popular music - songs from shows, pop, jazz, gospel, blues etc. Sight reading is not essential, but commitment and love of singing is. We put on 2 shows of our own per year plus guest appearances, festivals, weddings, charity events etc.

Come on you guys, come and check out Spectrum and Mary Jo.

Message: Hi everyone,

My company is currently putting together a Xmas tour starring Alvin Stardust. The tour will be towards the family audience with a party atmosphere as our aim featuring the best of all time popular xmas music from carols to Phil Spector to Slade.

Alvin is very keen to use a Gospel Choir as part of the production. We would like to use choirs from the region the show is appearing in on a given night. Our musical director would visit the choirs during the autumn to discuss the chosen material with the choirs and their MD's.

The dates and venues will be known in the coming two weeks. There will be approx 8 shows between 20th Nov and 8th December. We cannot make the dates any closer to xams due to Alvin's scheduled pantomime in Worthing.

Would any choirs who may be interested in the above please contact me via my email.

Many thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes, Vince Eager

HELP - MD WANTED
Spectrum, a small mixed voice choir based in Epsom, Surrey, needs a new MD. Richard Apsley has been with us now for 4 1/2 enjoyable years. Now, fortunately for him, but not so fortunately for us, his own professional career has really taken off and he feels he can no longer devote the time necessary to run the choir. Spectrum has several concerts scheduled which he is happy to honour if need be, but he would like to hand over in the near future. Spectrum sings a wide range of light popular music, eg songs from shows, Beatles, Elvis, Gerswin, Berlin, Lloyd Webber, spirituals, blues etc.

My wife and I have been running COMA Voices South-West in Bristol for a couple of years now, and would be very interested in hearing from anyone interested in fostering contemporary vocal (e.g. choral) music that is performable by amateurs and appeals to amateurs.

COMA stands for COntemporary Music for Amateurs and is a nation-wide organisation with headquarters in London and about a dozen regional instrumental ensembles. Its web-site is www.coma.org. We're the only group attempting to explore vocal music, and find it difficult to find interested people and suitable music.

If you're interested in the future of vocal music and in singing music that is contemporary and exploratory and yet performable and appealing, do please get in touch!

By Alastair Cameron on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - 01:17 pm:

Hi
>
> My name is Alastair Cameron and I am looking to start a Choir and an Orchestra
(to perform both separately and together) In central London. I am a recent
music graduate and many of my friends who find themselves in London have said
to me that they really miss playing/singing and it occurred to me that there
must be a lot of people in London who felt the same, this coupled with the fact
that I am looking for Groups to conduct led me to a fairly simple solution to
start an Orchestra and Choir.
>
>The basic idea behind this is as follows
>
>
>To perform as often as possible
>
>To perform a varied repertoire including suitable pieces by young composers
giving them a chance to have their music played .
>
>To bring together musicians and enable them to play both in a large group and
also introduce people who may be interested in starting smaller ensembles.
>
>
>These groups require high quality players as the idea is to always work towards
performances (otherwise what's the point surely) and to not have to spend months
learning new pieces, to this end we would require people to be both able and
committed (we are looking at having fortnightly rehearsals). We would be a self
funding group (sorry we won’t be able to pay anyone) hoping to make money out of
ticket sales but there will need to be a small contribution (yet to be
finalised) to cover the hire of music and rehearsal space. The main aim is for
everyone to have a good time and end up with a good sound.
>
>If this sounds like something you may be interested in or you just want to know
a bit more about it please contact me on al_cameron@hotmail.com or tel. 07779
420937 (after 5:30 during the week preferably)
>
>Please forward this information to anyone you know who may be interested either
singer player or composer.

Bella Cora is a talented and dynamic upper voice ensemble, with a highly respected musical director. After reaching the limits of what we want to achieve as a women’s group, we have decided to expand our horizons, musically speaking, by recruiting men to form a new chamber choir.

To this end we are seeking male voices, both tenors and basses. The new choir would be based in North London (Winchmore Hill), and will rehearse on a Monday evening during term time.

We know that with the right men, this could be the best chamber choir in London. This is an opportunity for you to join an exciting new venture right at the start, and to be a major contributor to the new choir’s direction.

To find out more, visit www.bellacora.org.uk, or ring Alan Hazeldine on 020 8341 0567.

MUSIC UP FOR GRABS - OFFERS PLEASE!!!

In September this year the music department at John Ruskin College in Croydon ceased to exist. However the college choir is still going strong. Vocal scores, instrumental tutors, reference books, miniature scores and carol books were all donated to the choir. There are still over 750 items needing a home. Over 500 scores and items have found homes and have helped raise much needed money for the choir. If anyone would like to view a list of this music, please let me know and I can e-mail a complete list of the surviving material. While not looking for a vast sum of money any small donation for all of this music or any part of would be appreciated.

At our church, I have recently set up a lending library for the Junior Church / Youth Club. As well as religious books, the library also includes music. We all know how expensive music is these days, and so stocking the library with some modern choral music by such composers as John Rutter, Malcolm Archer etc. has been difficult. I would be very greatful if you could contact me if any of you have any choral / church music which is surpless to your requirements (i.e. duplicate copies). I'm not really looking for sets, but mainly single sheets, - anthems, carols, hymn books etc. We do not have church choir, but I have encouraged the children to try out some more classical things in addition to the modern worship songs. Please e-mail me if you can help, or you have any suggestions. Unfortunately, I would not be able to pay for anything you donate, but I am sure you are aware of the importance of encouraging the younger generations in this particular field of music.
Many Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.
