Liturgical Music Courses August 2008

The Liturgical Music Courses runs week-long choral events in some of the UK's most beautiful cathedrals. There are about ten places left, available to any voice part, for each of the August courses. The Wells Tudor Music course in October is now fully booked, apart from one place for a tenor.

The East of England Liturgical Music Course (4th - 10th August) will involve performances in the cathedrals of Norwich, St Edmundsbury & Ely. It will focus on the great Anglican repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including the rarely performed "English Mass" by Herbert Howells.

The Malvern Liturgical Music Course (25th - 31st August) will take us to the cathedrals of Gloucester and Worcester, and to Great Malvern Priory. Repertoire will be varied, and we will finish with performances of several large-scale works by Giovanni Gabrieli in Gloucester Cathedral.

The courses are suitable for all singers with recent choral experience and some sight-reading ability. There are opportunities for solo and semichorus work for suitably accomplished participants, and each course offers a number of optional components. Travel to Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Ely (East of England Course), Worcester and Great Malvern (Malvern Course) from the rehearsal venues, one light meal, and entrance to all course events is included in the course fee of £235. Accommodation is available at the rehearsal venues for £27-29 / night, and scores and rehearsal CDs are sent out well in advance. The courses are tutored by Richard Smith and Graham Wili. Visit www.liturgicalmusic.co.uk or telephone 0118 326 6319 for further information. Applications can be made on the website, over the telephone or by mail. Please mention "Gerontius" when applying.
