Gentlemen - join Henley Choral Society - new conductor, no auditions, fabulous quality!

After seven fabulous years with Will Dawes, Henley Choral Society has a new Musical Director, Benjamin Goodson, and is keen to welcome new members to their Tenor and Bass sections. Ben works in London and Hertfordshire as a conductor and singer. He is the Musical Director of the Lea Singers and the Solis Ensemble and is a tenor lay clerk at St Alban's Cathedral. HCS Chair, Melissa Ewen, says: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have Ben join us. We auditioned five extremely talented young conductors but Ben was the unanimous choice. He has an indefinable quality that shines through.’ This quality was confirmed by a reference from Paul Spicer, Professorof Choral Conducting at Birmingham Conservatoire who described Ben as: ‘Unequivocally one of the most naturally gifted conductors I have encountered.’

Ben explains: ‘I'm delighted to be starting with Henley Choral Society and look forward to building on the great foundation that Will Dawes developed.’ He continues: ‘My way of working is to focus on vocal technique and sound quality. I am really looking forward to continuing to improve the choir's technique and to access all the different qualities of sound a choir of this size and quality has at its disposal.’

Chair Melissa Maple comments: ‘With a new young Musical Director in place and a wonderful forthcoming programme, we would love to have new Tenor and Bass members to start with us this Autumn. We draw members from quite a wide catchment area - anyone joining at this exciting time can expect a very warm welcome and, as always, no auditions! We would particularly welcome members to the Tenor section.'

Future plans include performing in Henley's Living Advent Calendar, the ever-popular Christmas Concert at St Mary’s, Henley, on Tuesday 10th December including extracts from Handel Messiah and a Spring Concert of Poulenc Gloria and the Faure Requiem.

Chaps - please do consider joining us or pass this information on to anyone you feel may be interested!

Potential new Tenor and Bass members should contact Membership Secretary, Wendy Hawkins on 01491 576929 for more information.

Rehearsals are held at d:two, 55-57 Market Place,Henley, at 7.30 p.m. every Monday and started again on Monday 2nd September – new members are welcome at any time.
