Choral premier Liverpool Phil July 10th

It’s all ahead go with Radio Merseyside it tow for a live broadcast of my “Liverpool’s Heritage” Premier and concert! A huge night for brass and voices, with fab soloists! It will also be a “Seconde” for my Trumpet Concerto Blaze which funnily enough premiers in Canada just next week. A top talent, Richard Marshall (solo cornet at Black Dyke Mills) will play the 2nd UK performance that night, and what a talent this boy is, if you can imagine Maurice Murphy and Allen Vizzutti rolled into one, this is the boy. I have possibly written “one of the most difficult, yet melodious concertos to date” (4barsrest.com 2004), and I’ve played most of them in my time, so I know!. So brass players, brass lovers, teachers, be there and get as many of your pupils as possible there also.

Brass bands, well we have one of the top 10 bands in the UK there on stage all night, the Fairey Band, they too will be strutting their musical stuff but also playing much material previously unheard and new. They will also combine with the Liverpool Phil Choir in arr: of Verdi, Faure, and Puccini. Margaret McDonald will join the band in a special arr: of the “Urlicht” from Mahler 2. She will then perform a premier for Alto & band composed by myself entitled “Poets, Love & Life” Two of our younger choirs will perform celebratory numbers in praise of our birth city Liverpool. It will be a very different and individual night for all.

The evening’s music culminates in the Premier of “Liverpool’s Heritage” for band and massed choirs in four movements. The work charts from 1004 King Wulfric Spot to King John & the charter of 1542 to the families who invested and owned Liverpool, to the growth of the Port becoming a UK centre for import export and news, the arrival of the Irish immigrants, to questioning housing policies of the 1960’s & 70’s to today’s great city of outstanding talents and achievements across the globe!
