Vacancies for plainsong cantors (paid) in Reading

APPLCATIONS ARE INVITED FOR TWO POSTS OF CANTOR (PAID) AT THE CHURCH OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY, READING

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Reading, has two vacancies for paid cantors. These posts offer a unique opportunity for accomplished singers with an interest in plainsong.

The posts will involve 30 services per year with an honorarium of £500. The majority of services fall on Sunday mornings. Attendance is by negotiation, and can accommodate some other Sunday morning commitments Rehearsals, usually lasting no more than forty minutes, will take place solely before services, although initial training, for singers not familiar with the notation/repertoire, may take place at other times.

The church has a strong Anglo-catholic tradition and the musical repertoire is largely chant-based. Six plainsong Mass settings are used throughout the year and there are many opportunities for more elaborate Propers.

Applicants should have strong voices, capable of providing a lead to the congregation when appropriate. Familiarity with four-line notation and chant repertoire would be helpful, but by no means essential as training will be provided as necessary.

Holy Trinity is close to Reading city centre, and ten minutes' walk from the train station. There are good train links to Oxford and London.

To apply, or for further information, please contact Richard Smith on 0118 326 6319 or email director@liturgicalmusic.co.uk
