Siglo de Oro is a newly-formed chamber choir. Its aim is to give passionate yet disciplined performances of renaissance music. The group’s name is taken from a Spanish phrase used to describe a ‘golden age’ of the arts that began in the late 15th century and lasted for a period of 200 years. Music by Spanish composers of the period, and in particular that of Guerrero, Victoria and Morales will form a key part of the group’s repertoire, but further to this, the name expresses the group’s dedication to music of this period.

The programme for these concerts encompasses a wide range of music written for and sung in the royal chapels of renaissance Europe, including Jean Mouton’s masterpiece Nesciens Mater, William Byrd’s lamenting Peccantem me Quotidie and Jean l'Héritier’s spine-tingling Surrexit Pastor Bonus.
