Places available on the Beverley Restoration Music Course, Feb 2009

Due to some cancellations, there are a few places left on the Beverley Restoration Music Course, available to any voice part. The course is run by The Liturgical Music Courses and directed by Richard Smith, with workshops by Dr Andrew Padmore.

The 2009 Restoration Music Course in based in the beautiful Yorkshire Minster-town of Beverely. It starts on the evening of Wednesday 18th February with an informal reception and warm-up session. On Thursday Dr Andrew Padmore will lead the first of his workshops and in the evening we will sing a Choral Evensong in Beverley's beautiful Gothic minster church. Friday will be spent in rehearsal and Dr Padmore will lead another workshop session in the evening.

On Saturday we travel to York where we will sing a recital in York Minster - the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. Later in the day the course director, Richard Smith, will give an organ recital in Beverley Minster. The following morning we will sing the Sunday Eucharist in Beverley Minster and the course will end that evening with a Choral Evensong.

The course is aimed at singers with some sight-reading ability, and recent choral experience. Sheet music and rehearsal CDs are provided in advance, and the course fees (£195) include one light meal on most days of the course and transport to the recital in York Minster. Fees do not include accommodation, but there are many reasonably priced guest houses within easy walking distance of the Minster.

Repertoire will include Henry Purcell's O God, Thou art my God and Jehova quam multi sunt, Blow's Dorian Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, and Pelham Humfrey's E minor canticle settings. There will be solo & semichorus opportunities for suitably accomplished singers. The course is limited to around 25 participants.
