New book on Choral Conducting

April sees the publication of Choral Conducting and the Construction of Meaning: Gesture, Voice, Identity. It is the outcome of a five-year research project exploring two central, interrelated questions:

1. What is the mechanism by which a conductor's gesture immediately and audibly affects the sound of a choir's voices?

2. To what extent are the characteristic gestural styles associated with directing in different choral styles an integral part to the performing traditions?
