Brian Kay Workshop: Lauridsen & Duruflé, Reigate, 4 Sep 2010

On 4 September 2010, Visit Reigate's lovely St Mary's Parish Church to join the English Arts Chorale and Brian Kay, conductor, singer and radio presenter, in preparing the Duruflé Requiem and Lauridsen O Magnum Mysterium for an informal performance at the close of the workshop.

Compared with other requiems, Duruflé's setting is calmer and more meditative, with many enchanting sections to discover if you are new to the piece. Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium has received much air-play and concert performances since its composition in 1994, and will provide a wonderful opportunity to work on choral sound.

Brian Kay is particularly known for his support of choral music-making. He divides his working life between the broadcasting studio and the concert platform. His many presentations for BBC radio have included Brian Kay’s Sunday Morning, Brian Kay’s Light Programme, the weekly listeners’ request programme 3 for all and Choirworks - all on Radio 3 - on Radio 2 the popular programmes Melodies for You and Friday Night is Music Night, and for Radio 4, Comparing Notes and Music in Mind. Brian’s television presentations have included the competitions to find the Cardiff Singer of the World and the Choir of the Year, and every year since 1996, the New Year’s Day Concert from Vienna. He has twice won a Sony Award as Music Presenter of the Year, including the coveted Gold Award in 1996.

This event is being promoted by The Music Trust using a grant from the BBC's Choral Ambition Fund, whose support we gratefuly acknowledge. We are therefore able to make places available at a cost of just £15. Full details and tickets are available through EAC's website: But hurry, tickets are selling fast!
