Inspiring the next generation about Handel's Messiah

Bristol Choral Society loves Messiah (we have performed it at the Colston Hall at Christmas every year since 1892!), but realise it’s a little too long for our younger friends to take in one sitting. So, in order to introduce children to the delights of this masterpiece, we thought why not create a special ‘mini-Messiah’ aimed especially at the younger audience?

Containing all the best bits from Messiah, plus fascinating insight from conductor Adrian Partington into how Handel put together this enduring masterpiece, this afternoon family concert will take place on Saturday 18th December 2010 at 4:30pm at the Colston Hall in Bristol. Admission is just £5 for adults and accompanied under 18s get in FREE!

We are hoping to reach an entirely new audience for this, in particular families who would not otherwise go to concerts, so if you are in the vicinity of Bristol, please help us spread the word!

At 7:30pm on the same night, we will be performing our complete Messiah, as we do every year.

Bristol Choral Society's Messiah is somewhat renowned - it is SUNG COMPLETELY FROM MEMORY by chorus and soloists alike, with a level of articulation and clarity not found in even most performances by chamber choirs. One audience member last year commented '...the best Messiah I've ever heard. And I've heard a few in my time, believe me - from all over the country. Stunning, simply stunning'.

This will be with the same wonderful baroque orchestra and soloists for the afternoon family concert:

Music for Awhile (Margaret Faultless – Leader)

Nicki Kennedy – Soprano
Carolyn Dobbin – Mezzo Soprano
James Geer – Tenor
Alexander Robin Baker – Bass
Warwick Cole – Harpsichord

under the inspiring baton of conductor Adrian Partington.

For the first time since 1892 (we believe), Bristol Choral Society will be performing a different work at Christmas next year, so we advise you not to miss the chance to hear this very special rendition of this traditional Christmas favourite this year!

Tickets for both the Mini-Messiah family concert and the evening performance are available from 0117 965 7822 or the Colston Hall box office.
