NEW EAST EUROPEAN singing group - monthly!

The KHOROVOD group is open to all – no experience or knowledge of the languages is needed. 1 session 11 January 2012.

Songs in Russian, Yiddish, Ukrainian, Belorussian and other East European languages will be taught by ‘native’ East European choir leader. Come and enjoy the explosive mixture of powerful dance rhythms and profound melodies of the Steppes and the Shtetl spiced up by Tatar Bazaars and washed down with a fisherman’s song from Odessa...
Polina Shepherd, the group leader, was born in Siberia and teaches traditional repertoire which she used to sing at the family table after eating borsht and drinking homemade wine in Tatarstan in Russia, including dance songs, lyrical, seasonal, wedding and drinking songs, lullabies, and easy classics.

Everything will be sung in original languages and carefully translated. Songs will be taught by ear but transliterations and sheet music will be available too.

Venue: Ralli Hall, 81 Denmark Villas, Hove, BN3 3TH, room 12 Time: Every second Wednesday of the month, 7-9pm starting on 11th January.

Cost - £6 per session.

(Khorovod (Russian, Polish: korowód) is a Slavic art form, a combination of a circle dance and chorus singing. )
Best regards,
Polina Shepherd
