Es ist ein Ros Entsprungen – A Lutheran Christmas Saturday 14th December 2013 7.00pm (note early start time) St Pancras Church, Euston Road, NW1 2BA Conductor David Allinson The Renaissance Singers with The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble Celebrate the festive season with this hearty programme of Lutheran Christmas music. We invite you to feast upon the sounds – and flavours – of a north German Christmas in the early 17th century. We are recruiting an extra chorus which will sing alongside the Renaissance Singers and the renowned English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble. On the day, singers and instrumentalists can spend time with us in workshops, leading to participation in sections of the concert – so that the congregation raises the roof, in accordance with Lutheran tradition. Advance booking is required. At the heart of our concert programme is music by Michael Praetorius, the most influential and prolific German composer of the decades around 1600. Steeped in Lutheran tradition, his music ranges from the breathtakingly elaborate – with multiple choirs of voices and instruments contending in lively counterpoint – to the cosily inclusive, with chorale melodies simply harmonised. We also sing Christmas works by Schütz, master of lyrical text setting and certainly the greatest German composer of the 17th century. Please register at www.renaissancesingers.com Places for extra chorus are open to all but limited in number! The cost is £20.
