Sopranos needed for Leeds choir's USA tour

The Heritage Singers is a four part choir of around 24 voices based in Leeds (we practice at St Michael's Church in Headingley). Our members are mainly from Leeds, but some travel from York, Harrogate, and even Burnley! The age range of the choir is 18 - 70+, and we pride ourselves on our friendly, informal and welcoming approach. We are due to go on our second USA tour on in July this year, but are rather short of sopranos...

In the UK, we primarily provide music for services at churches where there is no longer a choir, so much of our repertoire is church music. However, although there are two church services incorporated in the tour, we also have several concerts booked. Our concert repertoire ranges from Tudor music right through to the works of contemporary US and British composers. More information about the choir can be found on our website, www.heritage.singers.20m.com

If you are a soprano in the Leeds/Bradford/Harrogate/York general area and would like to join the choir, (even if you can't commit to the US tour) we would be delighted to welcome you. The choir normally practices on alternate Sunday evenings from 7.45 to 9.30 pm, but we will be moving to weekly rehearsals soon as we prepare for the USA tour. The website will give you a flavour of our singing commitments and their frequency.

However, what is most urgent now is that we need one or two strong sopranos for the US tour. This would require reasonable sight-singing ability, or the ability to learn quickly, you would need to be available for rehearsals as detailed above, and free to go to the USA from 23rd July to 1st August 2005. As we have to fund the tour ourselves, there is also a financial commitment and you would be required to pay something towards the tour costs (most of us have pledged to donate at least £500, the full cost will be around £1000 per person to cover flights, all US transport and accomodation). Partners and friends are welcome, as long as they can pay their way too. Our last tour was a huge success, and the experience of travelling around and singing to such appreciative audiences is one we won't forget (see website for some pictures!) .
