Job Description:
Bexley Youth Choir is a SATB choir based at Bexley Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Sidcup. It currently has 50 members, drawn from secondary schools in and around the Bexley London Borough, most of whom are aged between 13 and 18 years.
The Choir aims to make singing a disciplined but enjoyable experience, and undertakes a wide range of repertoire from early sacred and secular works through the Classical and Romantic periods to Folk, Gospel and Popular songs. One of our strengths is a strong sense of fun and camaraderie, which brings the groups closer together and in turn enhances performance.
The Choir undertakes local concerts and although it has toured abroad, it has in recent years performed extensively throughout the UK, singing in numerous cathedrals as part of the tours. It meets on Wednesdays during term time from 4.45 - 6.30pm and often takes part in holiday courses.
The position requires an energetic and enthusiastic director who is a reliable and well organised musician. Applicants shoud be able to demonstrate that they can empathise with young people and should have had some experience in directing choirs of this age range.
