You Don't Have to be Jewish...to "Celebrate With Song" ! Can't Post

Celebrate with Song with The Zemel Choir and others
Workshops Sunday 10th June 2007
Concert Sunday 17th June 2007 at 7.30pm

We want you to participate!

You have listened to Vivaldi. You love Mozart. But do you ever fancy something a little different? As a lover of choral music, you will be aware that St. John's Smith Square regularly plays host to performances of great choral classics, from the baroque to the modern.

On June 17th, St. John's will be the venue for a festival of choral music with a difference. Hosted by the UK's leading mixed-voice Jewish choir, Celebrate with Song is an introduction to three hundred years of European Jewish Choral Music. You can listen and, if you like, you can even join in. Don't miss this opportunity to expand your
horizons in the company of beautiful music. And don't worry, you don't have to be Jewish to attend or take part. This celebration is designed to introduce Jewish choral music to people from any background.

The concert includes a wide range of repertoire, from Salamone de Rossi, a contemporary of Monteverdi, to Kurt Weill. It features luscious nineteenth-century harmonies in the music of Louis Lewandowski (the father of modern Jewish choral music), as well as arrangements of folksongs in Hebrew, Ladino and Yiddish. Cabaret
songs from the streets of Manhattan rub shoulders with liturgical music from Hampstead Garden Suburb. There's even a brief appearance by a Eurovision classic.

If you are a keen choral singer, this concert also gives you the opportunity to tread the boards of St. John's, Smith Square. A set of workshops on the 10th of June will introduce singers to a wide variety of Jewish choral music, and participants in the workshops will perform on the 17th. Fancy getting your tongue round some Yiddish
words? Now is your chance. Full details can be found on the attached flyer

I would most grateful if you could forward this message to other members of your organisation.

We hope to see you there.

Best wishes,
