Celebrating men’s voices: one-day singing workshop

For the fourth year running, Chris Rowbury is calling on men throughout the Midlands to join him at a one-day harmony singing workshop in Leicester. Chris is a dynamic and engaging choir and workshop leader whose aim is to introduce more men to the joys of singing together. This is a chance to be part of a group that will create a rich and vibrant sound which will have the hairs standing up on the back of your neck!

To encourage more men to try singing, Chris will be leading a Men’s Harmony Singing workshop in Leicester on Saturday 23rd June. The workshop will be held at the Cross Corners Community Centre, Thurcaston Road, Belgrave, Leicester LE4 5PG from 10:30am to 4:30pm and costs just £15 for the day (bring lunch to share). For more information contact Chris on (024) 7665 9180, email chris@chrisrowbury.com or check out his website: http://www.chrisrowbury.com

This is a unique opportunity to spend a fun and relaxing day learning traditional songs from cultures where men sing together as naturally as walking or talking. These are rough-round-the-edges, gutsy, rich songs from various folk traditions, not the slick close harmony of barbershop. No experience is necessary as all songs are taught by ear, the only requirement is that you love to sing.

Chris Rowbury is an inspiring and energetic workshop leader who will teach songs from across the globe, all in unaccompanied harmony, and all taught by ear in the traditional way (so no need to read music!). The workshop is open to all men whether they sing in a choir and are more experienced singers, or for men who think they can’t “sing”, but would love to try.

Chris will be teaching uplifting songs from Africa, Eastern Europe, Britain and the US. All songs will be in three- and four-part harmony and have been specially chosen for the workshop. “I’m surprised more men don’t sing as singing has proven health benefits, acts as a stress-buster after a long day’s work, and even feeds the soul!” says Chris.

So come and flex those vocal cords, be part of a supportive group, have fun and a bit of a laugh, find your natural voice, discover new songs from other cultures, feel the joy of creating beautiful music, make some new mates.

Chris has over 20 years experience as a workshop leader and has worked all over the world as a teacher, director and performer. As well as leading three community choirs, he also sings himself as part of the vocal trio C-section. Chris’s approach to singing is informal, energetic and empowering, enabling people to find their own singing voice.
