Singers invited to join workshop & concert in February of chinese style work entitled "Mengjiang Weeping at the Wall" - Bristol Can't Post

SmileSingers are needed to take part in a concert in Bristol later this month which will feature music that combines European instruments and voices with the exotic sounds of an authentic Chinese orchestra.

SlyMenjiang Weeping at the Wall is being performed with a professional orchestra and around 100 schoolchildren at a special concert at the Victoria Rooms in Bristol on Friday 27 February at 6pm.

UnimpressedWritten by Bristol-based composer Jolyon Laycock, this new work requires a community choir to take part in the performance.

"Most of the music is in unison and quite memorable," says composer Jolyon Laycock. "We need lots of female voices although there are optional parts for tenors and basses as well."

A workshop day on Saturday 21 February at the Victoria Rooms, Bristol from 11am to 4pm will give the singers an opportunity to learn the vocal parts
and rehearse - anyone interested in joining the community choir is invited to attend.

Shocked"Just bring yourself and your voice," said conductor Nicholas Keyworth,"The more singers the better - and there is no fee to come along and sing."

Further performances of Menjiang Weeping at the Wall are planned later this year at Midsomer Norton on 19 March and as part of the Bath Fringe Festival
on 11 June.

To sing in Menjiang Weeping at the Wall at Bristol, Bath and/or Midsomer Norton, ring Posthorn Arts on 01249 712618 or email dreamriver@posthornarts.org.uk

Tickets for the concert at the Victoria Rooms in Bristol on Friday 27 February at 6pm cost £6.50 or £3.50 concessions and are available from the Colston Hall box office on 0117 922 3686.
