Equator Choir Competition for Kent Can't Post

Equator presents first ever Choir Competition for Kent with a world music flavour

Schools, youth, and adult choirs from Kent are invited to take part in a choir competition as part of the Equator World Music Series spring programme. The event is organised by ShivaNova, a cutting-edge world music company with an international reputation.

All amateur choirs are invited to submit a recording of their choir performing two songs, one of which must be a song from another country or culture. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 6th May. From these applicants, ten choirs will be shortlisted to perform at a special concert on Thursday 2nd July at St Mary’s Church, Ashford.

The judging panel includes highly experienced musicians from round the country including Perri Alleyne-Hughes, music director of Sense of Sound - one of the finalist choirs from the BBC Last Choir Standing Competition, Paul Patterson -composer, Deborah Miles-Johnson, associate chorus master from the Philharmonia Chorus, and Priti Paintal - composer and Artistic director of Equator.

Choirs will be judged on the following: presentation, quality, and choice of material. Choirs of all ages are encouraged to apply, and will be selected to take part in the Finalists’ concert. All details of the Equator Choir Competition and the address to send entries to can be found on the website:

Choirs managed or run by professional music organisations are excluded. Each choir must have a minimum of 12 singers.
