Equator Choir Competition for Kent

Equator presents first ever Choir Competition for Kent with a world music flavour Schools, youth, and adult choirs from Kent are invited to take part in a choir competition as part of the Equator World Music Series spring programme. The event is organised by ShivaNova, a cutting-edge world music company with an international reputation. All amateur choirs are invited to submit a recording of their choir performing two songs, one of which must be a song from another country or culture. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 6th May. From these applicants, ten choirs will be shortlisted to perform at a special concert on Thursday 2nd July at St Mary’s Church, Ashford. The judging panel includes highly experienced musicians from round the country including Perri Alleyne-Hughes, music director of Sense of Sound - one of the finalist choirs from the BBC Last Choir Standing Competition, Paul Patterson -composer, Deborah Miles-Johnson, associate chorus master from the Philharmonia Chorus, and Priti Paintal - composer and Artistic director of Equator. Choirs will be judged on the following: presentation, quality, and choice of material. Choirs of all ages are encouraged to apply, and will be selected to take part in the Finalists’ concert. Each choir must have a minimum of 12 singers.
