Brian Kay Singing Workshop 7th Nov 09 Can't Post

SITTINGBOURNE ORPHEUS CHORAL SOCIETY

INVITE YOU TO JOIN US FOR A SINGING WORKSHOP WITH BRIAN KAY

SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2009 – 10 AM FOR 10.30AM

The Parish Hall, School Lane, Borden, near Sittingbourne, Kent ME9 8JS

Sittingbourne Orpheus Choral Society is delighted to announce a one-day choral workshop with the inspiring conductor Brian Kay. The workshop is open to singers of all ages, with a reduced cost for students aged 18 and under.

Brian Kay is much in demand as a conductor, especially of choral music, and is renowned for the results he achieves with amateur choirs! For ten years he was chorus master of the Huddersfield Choral Society, and since 1996 he has been conductor of the Leith Hill Musical Festival in Dorking. He is a frequent guest conductor in this country and abroad. He is also a Sony Award winning BBC Radio Presenter and is well remembered as the bass in The King’s Singers, with whom he made countless recordings and live concert appearances all over the world.

We will be working from the volume "The Greatest Choral Classics", published by Novello. Copies will be available on the day for a deposit of £10. At the end of the workshop you may either keep your copy, or you can return it and the deposit will be refunded providing no pencil markings have been made and it is still in a saleable condition. The exact music to be studied will depend on the forces available, but the book includes the following:

Berlioz: Shepherd’s Farewell Handel: Zadok the Priest

Brahms: How lovely are thy dwellings Parry: Blest pair of sirens

Bruckner: Locus iste Stainer: God so loved the world

Elgar: Ave verum Mozart: Ave verum

Faure: Cantique de Jean Racine

Coffee/tea/juice and biscuits will be available throughout the day (at minimal cost), but please bring your own lunch. The workshop will end at about 4.30pm and the cost is £12 per person (students aged 18 and under £8).

If you would like to take part please send the attached form to:
