Manchester Chamber Choirs! Can't Post

I am a grade 8 standard contralto in need of a good chamber choir! I am having difficulty in finding anything smaller than a choral society that is located in the manchester area.

if anyone can help or give me any ideas, it would be muchly appreciated!

Cheers....

Smile

There are several chamber choirs listed on this site. Click here for a list of choirs in Manchester. I hope you find what you're looking for!

Hi

Not a direct suggestion, but I might suggest going to workshops such as those organised by the early music forum (http://www.nwemf.org.uk/events.htm). I have found a good way to get to know like minded people - I was recommended one my my current choirs by someone I met on workshops.

When I lived in Manchester a few years back I did the rounds of a number of choirs and I can vouch for:

The Manchester Chorale

40-50 singers, good standard (Choir of the Year finalists), v. wide repertoire of the Bach to the Beatles variety. A very friendly and convivial bunch, too. They've changed conductor since I sang with them, however. Website at http://www.manchesterchorale.org.uk/

The William Byrd Singers

about 25 singers, good standard, more serious repertoire than the Chorale, conducted by Stephen Wilkinson who used to do the BBC Northern Singers. Website (infested with popups) at http://members.tripod.com/~WilliamByrd/

Canzonetta

a list choir so variable in size, v. high standard (Choir of the Year winner), conducted by Jeffrey Wynn Davies who used to do the Chorale. Website (rather out of date) at http://www.canzonetta.freeserve.co.uk/

St Philip Neri Singers

about 20 singers, sing at the Church of the Holy Name (magnificent Victorian pile opposite the University) on major religious festivals. Generally good standard and interesting repertoire. Website at: http://stphilipnerisingers.org.uk/

Duodecimo

I should declare an interest as I co-founded this one: about 16 singers, occasionally shambolic but always fun and capable of a good standard, similar repertoire to the Manchester Chorale of which it is an unacknowledged offspring. No website -- for contact details see http://www.choirs.org.uk/D.html
