New Chamber Choir in Kent seeks singers Can't Post

The Warlock Singers

A new 18-20 voice chamber choir based in Westerham, Kent, founded to promote British music and create opportunities for performing and recording both mainstream and lesser known works in the choral repertoire. First auditions will be held in July 2004.

Music Director: Graham Dinnage GTCL, LTCL, LGSM

The aim is to do around 3 concert programmes per year, at 2 venues, most probably St Mary’s Church, Westerham and St Martin’s Church, Eynsford, and have rehearsals as required, not a regular weekly commitment. Rehearsals will be scheduled to accommodate members’ other commitments and concert dates will be selected to avoid clashing with local societies’ events wherever possible. All voices will be auditioned and selected for blend and musical ability. Concerts will include solo opportunities for all voices. Funding will be sought to allow ambitious programming, instrumental accompaniment and commissioning of new music.

Provisional concert plans:

October 2004 ‘Kentish Composers’

December 2004 ‘Bethlehem Down’

Peter Warlock (1894-1930) (born Philip Heseltine) is the inspiration for The Warlock Singers. One of his more creative song writing periods was spent in Eynsford (1924-1928), where he frequented the Five Bells Pub with his companions the composer E. J. Moeran and the artist Hal Collins.

Kent was home to many composers throughout history, including Tallis in the sixteenth century and Delius, Moeran and Warlock in the twentieth century and many emerging composers in the present day. The Warlock Singers will seek to promote the performance of British choral works and its first concert ‘Kentish Composers’ will feature works from composers with Kentish connections.

Vacancies exist in all voice parts. To find out more or arrange an audition,

please contact Graham Dinnage or Vivienne Cox by phone, fax or e-mail.
