Performers/Writers/Choirs wanted Would you like to be involved in a new site-specific theatre production? Wet Picnic are the theatre company charged with creating a celebratory performance for the 10th anniversary of Gunwharf Quays in April 2012. We are looking for performers , writers and singers who want to be a part of this fascinating project, which encompasses history, site, reality, imagination and theatre! Gunwharf has a rich and varied history as part of the maritime heritage of Portsmouth and Wet Picnic plan to explore that in various ways placing performance in and around water, installations throughout the site, characters and storytelling and a large choral piece. As part of DEPTH CHARGE they are looking to work with local people on creating this wonderful site-specific piece. For Performers: Performers will be used to populate the site with interactive characters to direct the audience members through the site, they will take part in the story telling moments in the piece, they will be part of installations and main performance. You will develop skills in: Character, improvisation, movement, speech and text, general acting and stagecraft. As well as working with an international touring Theatre Company. Performers must be flexible and be happy to experiment with different ideas and ways of performing. It is not necessary you are an experienced performer or particularly skilled in specific areas, but a willingness to try things, develop skills and work under direction is a must. For Writers: We are looking for people who are interested in writing poetry, prose, short stories or even scripts, which are inspired by real life and the site itself, and can feedback in to the piece. The work will be created under direction from the Artistic Director and there will be opportunities to write alone or as a group, alongside performers and other members of the creative team. Writers must be willing to accept that theme and direction will come from the project and this is not a project where work is simply submitted. Corrections and changes to their work may be made to connect it with the arc of the main piece of theatre. For Singers, Choirs and musicians We are looking for people, who can commit to the rehearsal process, are interested in meeting new people, who like a bit of a challenge and who love to sing! We aim to create a large choir from volunteers and pre existing choirs. We would like to meet and create work with a number of singers, choirs and musicians to bring another dimension to this large-scale piece of work. The key dates of the project will be October - a research in to promenade performance, Ariel Dance and movement, the creation of installations. Performers and writers needed Must be available for performance on 28th October plus rehearsals for the two weeks leading up to this. These rehearsals will be schedule once the participants are selected. December – A research period in to close contact audience interaction, character based walkabout, manipulating and leading audiences, installations in multiple locations, a large choir and musical performance. Performers, writers and singers needed Must be available for performance on 4th December plus rehearsals for the two weeks leading up to this. These rehearsals will be schedule once the participants are selected. April - Explosive performance pulling together the October and December research periods, with story telling, installations, and larger performance on and in the water with large audience numbers. Performers, writers and singers needed Must be available for performance on 14th April plus rehearsals for the three weeks leading up to this. These rehearsals will be schedule once the participants are selected. You don’t have to be involved in every part of the project, however, the process will involve working with directors and performers from Wet Picnic, through workshops and rehearsals and will require that you are committed to the entire period that you apply to be part of. The work can be intense with a lot of changing elements throughout the creation process but promises to be incredibly rewarding, fun and interesting! We are looking for people, who can commit to the rehearsal process, enjoy a challenge, who can take direction and want to bring the site to life!
