Gesualdo – The Lost Cantiones Sacrae

Gesualdo published three collections of sacred music. Two of them are often performed but his 6-voice set of ‘Sacrae Cantiones’ has remained tantalisingly out of reach because two of the six vocal lines are missing. Stravinsky tried completing three in his own style but it is not until now that scholar James Wood has completed the whole set in Gesualdo’s style, a task taking over ten years. Now for the first time in the UK, a selection is being made available for this workshop under the direction of early music expert Robert Hollingworth. As a contrast to the Gesualdo the workshop will also include a movement from Porta’s mass for three choirs.
