Tenors and Basses invited to join Ishirini for choral festival in Petra, Jordan, and future UK and overseas projects Can't Post

Ishirini is an innovative chamber choir specialising in international collaboration. Previous tours include Tanzania and India, where we've created unique opportunities for our singers to interact with singers from these countries in joint performances and workshops.

We're looking for 1-2 tenors and basses to join us for an amazing trip to Jordan from 23rd - 28th October, performing alongside Arab choirs in the ancient city of Petra. The festival has a strong focus on exploring Arab music through interactive workshops, and Ishirini will be one of only 2 European choirs. For the Arab choirs this will also be a rare chance to discover European repertoire. Each choir will give its own concert as well as taking part in workshops and a final collaborative concert to conclude the festival.

Singers need to be strong readers and quick to learn (music is sent out in advance, but there is limited rehearsal time), with confident voices able to blend in small voice sections. Many of the singers sang with Cambridge chapel choirs. It's a very sociable choir, and our singers share a sense of adventure, respect for other cultures and a desire to explore new places.

Singers joining the Jordan trip will be welcome to join the choir on an ongoing basis (or free just to join for Jordan). Auditions will take place in Cambridge or London, as convenient.

We typically have 2-3 projects per year - with UK concerts and overseas trips. For UK projects we normally arrange rehearsals / concerts so that singers don't need to take time off work, as everyone is constrained by limited annual leave. We have links to Cambridge, and so pre-tour rehearsals have often taken place there (one weekend include pre-tour concert). Concert proceeds cover core choir costs (music, publicity etc) as well as supporting our overseas partners (e.g. Tanzania and India). There is no subscription, but singers need to cover the cost of their travel, food and accommodation.
