Erasmus Chamber Choir - Cambridge Can't Post

The Erasmus Chamber Choir is a new Cambridge vocal ensemble, conducted by Francis Knights (Director of Music, Fitzwilliam College), a very experienced choral conductor. Its focus will be on sacred and secular English music from the Renaissance to the present day, both standard repertoire and neglected works. The new group is intended to fill a gap between Cambridge’s many undergraduate choirs and ‘town’ ensembles, and we are therefore especially looking to provide opportunities for younger voices. It is not intended that there will be any choir subscription fee.

There will be three concerts each year, usually with three rehearsals for each (on Friday evenings, starting on 9 November, in Cambridge). The first is ‘400 years of English choral music’ on 7 December 2012 (music by Tallis, Gibbons, White, Pearsall, Sullivan, Holst, Tavener and others), followed by ‘Bach and the Victorian Bachists’ on 23 March 2013 (J.S. Bach, Wesley, Henry Smart and Mendelssohn) and ‘English Madrigals and Partsongs’ on 29 June 2013 (tbc). Future repertoire will include Purcell’s Fairy Queen, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri, Stainer’s St Mary Magdalen, Howells’ Requiem and Tavener’s Vigil Service.

Experienced choral singers with excellent sight-reading are invited to contact the Chairman, Will Hale (Cambridge University Library), on wah26@cam.ac.uk, to arrange an informal audition (15 and 26 October, 7-9pm). Any other queries are welcomed by the conductor, on fk240@cam.ac.uk.
