‘For Motets and musick of piety and devotion, as well as for the honour of our Nation, as the merit of the man, I prefer above all our Phoenix M[aster] William Byrd, whom in that kind, I know not whether any may equall.' Henry Peacham 1622 Guildford Chamber Choir is running a workshop on the music of William Byrd on Saturday 24th November in St Mary's Church, Quarry Street - the oldest building in Guildford, dating from before the Norman conquest. Registration will be from 1.15 pm and we will rehearse from 1.30 till 5.45 with a couple of tea breaks. There will then be a slightly longer break with refreshments supplied by the choir before a concert at 7 pm which will last about an hour. The cost is £15 for singers, which covers all music and refreshments, and audience members are welcome for the concert (tickets at £5). The workshop will be led by our Principal Conductor, Steven Grahl, Director of Music at St Marylebone Parish Church and Assistant Organist at New College, Oxford. See our website for full details of the day and the online registration form: http://www.guildfordchamberchoir.org.uk/events.html
