Musical Director for Wombourne & District Choral Society Can't Post

Wombourne and District Choral Society, a self funded Registered Charity which was founded in 1929 and which has about 100 members from South Staffordshire, the West Midlands, and Shropshire, is seeking a Musical Director to commence in January 2006 following the retirement of David Parkes at the end of 2005.

The Society gives three main concerts each year, mainly in Wolverhampton and its environs, two of which are devoted to the main choral repertoire of oratorio and other sacred music, with an occasional opera in concert performance. In the summer a concert performance of a lighter work, such as "The Merry Widow" or Gilbert and Sullivan, is usual. Most concerts are performed in conjunction with the Orchestra da Chiesa, occasionally with the Chameleon Arts Orchestra, and very occasionally with organ. Professional soloists are usually employed. The Society is also involved in an exchange relationship with a French choir from Orleans.

The Society is seeking, therefore, a conductor who is confident in directing a professional orchestra and professional soloists as well as being expert in choir-training. Payment will be in accordance with I.S.M. guidelines.

Those interested in applying for this position should, in the first instance, submit a letter of application, including a curriculum vitae, to the Honorary Chairman, Wombourne & District Choral Society, Professor N. J. Birch, Rowanshiel, Histons Hill, Codsall, Staffordshire, WV8 2ER. If possible this letter and attachments should also be sent by email to N.J.Birch@btinternet.com
