Sedgefield Lyric Singers, SLYC and Lirica present “Thank you for the music”, a musical celebration of 40 years of the Sedgefield Lyric Singers, joined by conductors past and present.



The concerts are on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th June 2014 at 7pm in Sedgefield Parish Hall. Tickets are £5.00 ( £4 under 16s), and are available from “Tickety Boo”, Front Street, Sedgefield, any choir member or Connie Spring on 01740 621196.

Sedgefield LyricSingers was formed in October 1974, on the initiative of Derrick Lofthouse,with the objective that its members should gain pleasure and companionship fromsinging together, further their knowledge of music and, in particular, ofsinging, and give enjoyment to others through their performances. The choir also set out to support charitableand worthwhile causes with financial assistance whenever possible. Over the last 40 years, in excess of £18,000has been donated to local and national charities, such as the Great NorthAir Ambulance, Butterwick Hospice, MIND, and the Anthony Nolan Trust havebenefited as well as some individuals and charities overseas.

The choir has sung at many venues throughout County Durham,including hospitals and care homes, churches and church, parish and villagehalls, and at one time sang regularly with the Billingham Silver Band. Members of the choir have travelled toHamminkeln, Sedgefield’s twin town in Germany, and hosted visiting choirs fromGermany and Sweden. The choir has arepertoire of over three hundred songs includes classical and sacred music aswell as songs from musical theatre, traditional North Eastern ballads, folksongs from around the world, and many Christmas songs and carols. In additionto invitation concerts, there are annual summer and Christmas concerts, and thechoir performs each year as part of the Sedgefield Mediaeval Fayre.
