Come and Sing Brahms Requiem - 16/11/14 Manchester Can't Post

We know that it’s amazing in German, but the fact is that this work is much more accessible to many choral singers in English, and so we are inviting choral singers with varying levels of experience to come and sing one of the most powerful works in the choral repertoire using the old Novello edition (Ivor Atkins) on Sunday November 16th, 2014 in Manchester. We’ll provide a vocal score if you need one, but if you have (or want to acquire) your own and bring that instead, then that will be fine!

It is not often done in ‘Come and Sing’ settings, but for those who love it and have not sung it for a while, or for those who have never sung it before, whether you are a student of music or another discipline, member of a very experienced chamber choir or of a choral society or another sort of choir, as long as you can actually sight-sing and enjoy serious choral rehearsals, you are very welcome. We want as much diversity as possible without anyone feeling too much out of their depth, because then you can’t enjoy the experience!

We will begin at 11am, break for lunch at 1:30pm (with a break). We are providing lunch for everyone, and then we will return at 3pm and work until 5pm (with a shorter break). We will then have supper, which will also be provided for everyone (so please do not forget to let us know your dietary requirements The concert will be at 6:30pm and last between 60-65 minutes, enabling you to get home before it is too late! We will be performing the two-piano version in concert (you may know this as the so-called ‘London’ version).

The musical team that will take you through the day: our conductor, Alexander Douglas and soprano soloist and vocal animateur, Aimee Toshney.
