Copyright: question for choirs hiring out music through Gerontius

The choir I sing in is thinking about hiring music out through Gerontius but we weren't sure about copyright issues. How have other choirs addressed these? Do you get permission from each individual publisher? I've been searching for a central scheme but all the information I've found so far just says that it is a breach of copyright without permission.
