St Nicolas Parish Church has stood in the shadow of Pevensey Castle for eight centuries. A place of worship since the Norman Conquest, it remains a mainstay of Christian belief and local life, a living link between today’s village community and Pevensey’s medieval Cinque Port heritage. Following the recent appointment of Victor Potter, formerly of Eastbourne Parish Church, as Director of Music, St Nicolas is seeking regular adult singers in all parts to shape and grow the existing small and friendly choir by contributing music from Medieval Chant to the present day. The choir sings regularly at the 11.00 a.m. Sunday morning service and at some major Festivals including Christmas and Easter. There is a weekly rehearsal, presently before the Sunday morning service. There are no formal auditions but the main requirements are commitment and enthusiasm and an ability to blend with other voices. Some sight reading ability would be helpful but not essential. Commitment can be tailored to availability. Those who cannot attend weekly may feel able to join the choir for larger occasions and important Festivals. St Nicolas is an inclusive church and membership is open to anyone in the community. To find out more without initial commitment, to arrange to give the choir a try by attending a rehearsal or for further information please email victor@victorpotter.co.uk.
