SARTEANO CHAMBER CHORAL CONDUCTING WORKSHOP, ITALY (TUSCANY)
5-12 August 2006
With Simon Carrington, Brian O'Connell and Bronislawa Falinska

This intensive conducting workshop is geared for music educators and choral conductors with strong vocal ability who are interested in rehearsing and performing chamber choral music. We heartily welcome singers who are interested in attending the workshop in a non-conducting capacity; who are very specifically looking to learn rehearsal and conducting techniques. You will be part of a twenty-two to twenty-four member ensemble that will prepare and perform a cappella choral music from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. Up to two graduate credits are available through The Boston Conservatory.

There are three possible levels of participation: Twelve (12) applicants will be granted Full Conductor status; to apply for this position you must submit a videotape. Please send a VHS Video Cassette or DVD (standard U.S.) of a rehearsal or concert with you as the focal point. Each Full Conductor will be assigned a piece for their podium time in the master class; they will also conduct this piece in the final concert. You may also choose to participate as either a Conducting Auditor or Singer. Included in the price of participating as a Conducting Auditor will be a private half-hour conducting session with Simon Carrington. The Master Class uses the Workshop ensemble as its laboratory, so everyone receives the benefits of each master class. The two-part morning session will consist of Vocal Pedagogy, and clinics on developing a vital chamber choir. The afternoon sessions will consist solely of conducting Master Classes with Simon Carrington.

Bronislawa Falinska, our visiting artist in Vocal Pedagogy, will again be joining us for daily ateliers using the Rohmert Method of Functional Voicetraining. This approach guides the singer towards an awareness of the voice not usually addressed by most conventional singing methods. Get ready for a sensorial exploration of the voice, and to explore how self-perception works in the combination of "hearing-feeling-seeing."

Application forms are available on-line. Please also attach a resume when applying. The total cost of the workshop is 645 USD for Full Conductors, 545 USD for Conducting Auditors and 500 USD for Singers. Also included in the price is our Farewell Gala Dinner.
