Christmas Carols Can't Post

Medici Choir is celebrating 40 years of close collaboration with its conductor, John Baird, by promoting some of his choral music.

John Baird has composed a new work for Christmas called ‘Baby Jesus’ which uses the carol ‘Silent Night’ in the same way that Bach uses the chorale in his chorale fantasies (such as ‘Sleepers wake!’). John’s original theme that eventually accompanies ‘Silent Night’ is in 5/8 time and takes the form of a series of Questions and Answers while the Nativity Story unfolds. The work ends with a four part setting of ‘Silent Night’.

You can listen to a sample of the carol at http://www.medicichoir.org/jmb/baby_jesus.htm and more information on other pieces that may of interest to your choir is available at http://www.medicichoir.org/jmb/.

If you would like to order copies please contact the choir librarian at compositions@medicichoir.org.

A collection of carols that John has arranged, The Westminster Carol Book, is available from Camden Press.

We hope you will enjoy singing John's music as much as we do. Thank you!
