Interested in performing unusual repertoire? Can't Post

MUSIC REPRIEVAL TRUST

Are you interested in neglected corners of the classical repertoire?

Are there pieces which you've always thought deserved to be better known?

Has your choir or choral society hesitated to programme an unusual non-contemporary piece because of the extra cost?

If so, you may be interested in the Music Reprieval Trust, which I and my partner have just set up with a friend. We've always enjoyed exploring neglected composers, both as singers and as listeners, but we know that performing a big piece by a composer who has fallen out of the repertoire - or who was never in it - can be a bit of a risk; so we had the idea of setting up a trust that could help, by making grants towards the cost of concerts which feature such music. Of course there are many bodies which help to promote new music; we're interested in giving little-known music of the past another chance. We're not interested only in choral music, by the way, although all three of the Trustees are keen choral singers.

So if you're thinking of putting on a concert which includes music by a neglected composer - or even a little-known piece by a well-known composer - you might like to apply to the Trust. Our plan is for the Trustees to review applications at our meetings, which will be every six months, and on each occasion make a single grant of up to £500. The next Trustees' Meeting is on 13 November. This is all we can afford to do at present - the Trust has only just been set up, and doesn't have much money - but that may change.

We'd also very much like to hear from you if you might be interested in making a donation to the Trust.

If you're interested, you can get contact details for the Trust from our entry in the Charity Commission's Register of Charities:

Best wishes,

Peter Gilliver
Chairman, Music Reprieval Trust (Registered Charity no. 1115584)
