Morriston Orpheus Choir in Swansea seeking an Accompanist Can't Post

Following the decision of its long standing accompanist, Joy Amman Davies, to step down from the role next year, the Morriston Orpheus Choir from Swansea has began its search for a new accompanist.

Applications are invited from well-qualified pianists for this very exciting opportunity to work with one of Wales’s leading male choirs. The Choir, which has a worldwide reputation for excellence in choral singing, undertakes engagements throughout the UK and has toured regularly in Europe, North America and Australasia.

This is a responsible post requiring a high level of keyboard skills. The ability to work well with the Musical Director and her Deputy, the Assistant Accompanist, Organist and Choir is essential. Flexibility and adaptability are key features of this demanding role. Experience of accompanying, particularly in a concert environment would be desirable.

The Choir holds two rehearsals each week in the Morriston area of Swansea and has around 25-30 engagements (excluding overseas tours) throughout Great Britain and Ireland. The Accompanist will be expected to attend all concerts and rehearsals unless otherwise agreed with the Musical Director. He/she will be expected to keep up-to-date with the current repertoire.

An annual honorarium will be paid as a retainer. Moderate fees and expenses will be paid for concert appearances and other engagements.

Applications for the post or requests for further information should be addressed to: John Betts, General Secretary, Morriston Orpheus Choir, 57 Penlan Road, Treboeth, Swansea, SA5 7DE. Tel: 01792 419714 or
e-mail to gensec@morristonorpheus.com.

See the Choir's website www.morristonorpheus.com for details of the Choir’s activities, history and recordings.
