THE BRIGHTON & HOVE YIDDISH CHOIR
Jewish choir invites to sing
weekly sessions every Wednesday at 7 p.m.; Join any time! Music lovers of all backgrounds and singing levels are invited.
REPERTOIRE: The choir material features Jewish folk songs, Niggunim (the age old Jewish “songs without words”) combined with original compositions, challenging improvisation, with special attention to folk elements in singing.
Some songs with piano accompaniment but most a cappella.
TEACHING: mainly by ear.
LEARNING: the Choir is a secular community, but we do talk about the historic context of our material, carefully translating Yiddish words and paying attention to details of the musical language.
