On Saturday 7 February 2004 the Lea Singers of Harpenden welcome Dr Barry Rose, OBE, to run a day working on choral techniques.
Choral Workshop in Harpenden, Hertfordshire - Saturday 7 February 2004
During the day he will work on a selection of well-known pieces from the OUP publication European Sacred Music (copies provided), building up to a sing through at 6.30 pm. Barry Rose is well-known locally, having been Master of the music at The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban for 10 years up to 1997. Prior to that he was Choirmaster at St Paul’s (where he conducted the choirs for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee service and the Royal Wedding in 1981) and established the choir at Guildford Cathedral, as well as being the BBC’s Religious Music Adviser for some twenty years. He was appointed OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 1998.
Accompaniment for the day will be provided by Jamie McVinnie, formerly organ scholar at St Albans Abbey and now at Clare College, Cambridge.
The event will take place at St John's Church, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, AL5 1DJ and registration will take plave at 11.00. The cost for adults is £10 and competent singers of all ages and invited to come.
