The gerontius music hire database contains the music libraries of a number of choirs from around the UK. If you're looking for a set of scores to hire, you can search the database to see if a choir has the scores you need. You can then find out how to contact the choir librarian to ask about hiring the scores. There are also some scores available for purchase.
You can search the database by composer and/or title of work. You can also browse an individual choir's music library. The lists of scores are maintained by the choirs themselves.
The database currently lists over 12,000 sets of scores belonging to over 200 choirs (January 2017). Sets contain from 1 copy to over 300 copies.
Note for Choirs : We would like to encourage choirs to put the details of the scores in their library on the database. It doesn't matter if you only have a few sets. You might have copies of precisely the piece of music that another choir is looking for.
To put scores on the database your choir needs to be a member of the site. You can then add your scores to the database using an on-line form. You can also change the details of your scores held on the database and delete them if needed. Scores can be listed as available for hire, purchase or both. To help others, a price can be given, per copy for hiring and per set for purchase.
Choirs also need to supply the details of the choir librarian who will act as a point of contact for people interested in hiring or buying scores. A form is provided which allows people to send an email to the librarian to enquire about hiring scores.
If you already have your music library organised as either a list, spreadsheet or database, you can send us your list in the correct format and we will upload it into the music hire database for you. There's a one off administration fee of £50 for this service.
Alternatively you can add your scores one by one using the forms available on the site. There is no charge for adding your scores this way.
